The playerbase tested the new motherships over several weeks on SiSi and found them good.
Some genius put you in charge of Abathur's good work, and now you've not only screwed up all the effort that went into testing those ships, now there's to be no improvement at all.
Where is your credibility on caps? Who are you? Have you fought in a supercapital, lost a supercapital on the field?
Is this the new CCP, or the old CCP rearing its terrible, incompetent head?

I don't know what game you're talking about but in the internet spaceship game Eve Online this statement is patently false.
This is pretty horrific. We go from a dev who had used supercaps, lost supercaps, killed supercaps - to some guy who doesn't even know how basic capfights in nullsec work.
This is just shameful. Shameful. I thought things were bad for us when you unironically suggested allowing motherships to dock, not a few days ago. Now this? My god.

At first I wanted Nozh's head - get him away from the capital portfolio, since he apparently knows nothing about 1. supercaps 2. the weeks of testing before he came on the scene 3. how capfights even work
Now, however - after the 'docking motherships' hilarity, and this blog? I want to know who is responsible for hiring Nozh, and putting him in charge of capitals. Who is to blame for this gross act of negligence?
Oh, by the way, you talked about painters in your blog, Nozh. You may not know this, but you can't paint a sieged dread, mothership or Titan. Hope this helps.

I don't even log into eve-online, a game about spaceships, and yet I know that you can't target paint supercaps or sieged dreads.
I also know, despite not being a player, that cap fights often take place within ridiculously short range.
Welp, this makes next week's column an easy topic. "New CCP vs Old CCP," something about how the older class of 'dev who doesn't know anything about the game' is managing to force out the newer, former-player devs with actual experience.

WoW, I never thought in my whole eve-life I'd quote Mittani for good but here we go. This man has it right!
cheers

P.S.: And trust me, this cost me quite an effort.
Since Nozh probably has no idea who c0rn1, Manfred, myself or Coranor is, we'll simply have to wait for the other devs and the community folks to recognize how deeply messed up you must be to have all of us nullsec people united in our condemnation of these changes.
We cannot agree about the color of the sky, yet we agree that Nozh has displayed a frightening incomprehension of the basic aspects of capital warfare in EVE, yet he's now in charge of it. We also agree that we liked Abathur's version of the mothership.
First time for everything.

I was having a chat with a goon director who shall remain nameless, and they pointed out to me an issue which I think we should consider in a sober light.
At fanfest, CCP made a big production about how their new corporate rallying cry for this year was 'Excellence'. They showed videos and even had that delightful little rap-rock "HTFU" thing proclaiming their solidarity as a company and the quality of their work.
Does someone who does not comprehend basic aspects of capital warfare - or even ewar mechanics - being in charge of the capital dev portfolio represent CCP's 'Excellence'?
As much as I'd like to simply post lil dude and talk about how wonderful - or shall I say 'excellent' CCP Abathurs changes were - how delightful it was to see a transparent, two-way feedback process between devs and players on Sisi - this blog forces the question.
Where's the excellence?

Edited by: The Mittani on 20/11/2009 16:41:57 You have not addressed the issues of the community at all. For weeks, the Abathur version of motherships was tested; feedback was given from players and listened to by the devs. Broad consensus was achieved.
You have not provided a single rationale for abandoning the efforts of hundreds of players working in concert with Abathur and the other devs on the supercapital reform project.
Why is this being done? Why are you even here? Where is your credibility? You offer us 'fixes' for problems which do not exist.
The Abathur version of the supercapitals was the only one that was created with the input and feedback of players. That is what should be reverted to, and you remove yourself from the capital dev portfolio entirely.

The danger of taking a position of 'democracy' and 'transparency' - by creating the CSM to allow for player feedback, having devs interact with players at length at Fanfest, and then having a multiple-week process on SiSi for players to provide input on supercapital reform - is that now the playerbase expects CCP to behave in an accountable way.
Arbitrary, incompetent and uninvited changes decided behind closed doors are not a sign of 'excellence', nor are they the kind of behavior that the playerbase will tolerate from the 'new, reformed CCP' - the supposedly democratic, transparent company that listens to its clients, in the aftermath of the previous unpleasantness.
In theory - based on what CCP told us at Fanfest - they use the 'Scrum' development method. However, given how Nozh has unilaterally altered motherships (first 6bn isk, then they can dock, now nothing changing at all) it seems apparent that Nozh himself is able to make these abrupt switches in capital design without any restraint or consensus from the Scrum process.
The CSM is hardly happy about these changes. You can find posts from many of the CSM reps lambasting this idiocy. They are our representatives, democratically elected in a process CCP intended to bring more accountability to the company. Yet where is their impact on Nozh?
Transparency, democracy, player consensus and Scrum - all abandoned. Thank for your help, Nozh!

Edited by: The Mittani on 21/11/2009 00:01:01 Hammerhead:
If CCP Nozh is not to blame for this, are you implying that your entire dev team on the capital ships issue does not understand the irrelevance of target painters, or the range at which capital fights actually happen on Tranquility?
If your entire team shares the glaring misconceptions about the game which Nozh's blog demonstrated, things are very bad indeed for the playerbase.
1367, fyi.
